EDCI 335 peer blog feedback 2 on Direct Instruction
After reading your blog post, I enjoyed how you explained what direct instruction is and connected it well to your group’s learning resource on socially constructed gender roles in the workplace. I liked how you described direct instruction as a way to review what learners learned, introduce new materials using step by step approach, provide practice, and create activities to check for understanding. I think what you wrote about direct instruction almost connects to what I wrote in my own blog post, where I argued that direct instruction is useful when learners need foundational knowledge before moving into deeper discussion or application. In your post, I can see how learners first need clear explanations of gender roles and stereotypes before they can apply those ideas to workplace examples. I also thought your “Breaking the stereotype” final activity was a good choice because it allows your learning resource does not simply give out information, but it also provides students a chance to apply what they learned.
Possible feedback?
One suggestion I would make is to explain a little more about possible limitations of direct instruction rather than generally describing how you applied direct instruction to your learning resource and how it helps learners, since topics like gender roles can be very sensitive and uncomfortable for some learners. What would you do in cases where direct instruction does not support the needs of learners? What are some potential risks or barriers of applying direct instruction? because relying solely on direct instruction is not effective based on my research. This will make your post sound more convincing and you can easily identify potential problems that could arise if you apply this learning approach to your resource.
