Hey Sophia, I really liked how you connected your personal experience of learning guitar to the learning theories we learned in class including constructivism, connectivism, behaviorism, and cognitivism. Your experience about learning a guitar class clearly shows how the course can be seen constructivist because it asks learners to build knowledge independently, but can be discouraging when there is no clear visible progress. I understand that when learning a skill like guitar, visible progress and small successes are important for motivation and competence. Otherwise, it is easy to lose interest and give up eventually.
One thing I found interesting in your post was how you connected the lack of guidance to cognitivism and behaviorism. You said “step-by-step instructions, repetition, and feedback” probably would have made the learning feel less discouraging. I totally agree with this as I had a similar experience in my computer science course where the instructor skipped some part of the code without explaining, assuming we already know. I also agree with your point on connectivism as I personally find YouTube and Google helpful for self-guided learning, but only when I know how to choose and organize useful resources that connect with the original course content. It would have been better if you provided a detail on how those outside resources did not work well with learning the course.
